Chandeshwari Jatra is being celebrated today in Chasukhel, Bhaktapur. Every year, on the full moon day of Baisakh, this Jatra is celebrated in front of the Chandeshwari Temple in Chasukhel, Bhaktapur, Tibukchhen.
The Jatra is celebrated for 2 days, on Baisakh, full moon day and the day before. The chariot of the procession is taken around the 3-storey temple of Chandeshwari Devi in Chasukhel and taken to Dattatreya via the Durbar area.
During the Jatra, it is customary to perform an empty Khat Jatra in the evening before placing Chandeshwari Devi in the Khat. Then, the Goddess is placed in the Khat and a Jatra is performed with music and lavalaskar.
After the official worship, it is customary to return to the same route and take Chandeshwari Devi to Tibukchhen Tol. Then, there is a tradition that the Chandeshwari Devi's Khat stops at the crossroads before reaching Tachpal Tol via Sukuldhoka, Golmadi, Inacho. During this, there is a tradition of dragging the khat on the ground without lifting it.
Then the khat is carried again and taken to the Kwachhen Oralo, carrying the khat, yata, and galsa. The khat is returned again and taken to the courtyard of the Chandeshwari temple premises, where the idol is taken out and worshipped in a proper manner.
The idol is placed on a box and worshipped. It is a tradition that the Chandeshwari Jatra of Banepa begins only after the flower offerings to the Chandeshwari Devi are offered in the evening.
