Public vehicles plying in Dhading, Nuwakot and Rasuwa have now started operating from within the new bus park. Earlier, buses that were parked around Machhapokhari and Balaju roads have started operating from within the new bus park from today.
A meeting of stakeholders held in the metropolis last Tuesday, chaired by the acting mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, had decided to operate all public transport vehicles within Kathmandu from within the new bus park in Gongabu. The meeting decided to mandatorily operate all public vehicles from within the new bus park within 3 days, and public buses plying in Dhading, Nuwakot and Rasuwa have started operating from within the new bus park from this morning.
The metropolis had brought the new bus park into operation in 2056 BS to organize and park public vehicles entering the Kathmandu Valley. Although most of the district-bound vehicles operate from within the new bus park, vehicles operating in Nuwakot, Rasuwa and Dhading districts have been operating by setting up counters and parking in the Machhapokhari area.
Although the National Bus Park of Nepal is operating in an area of 161 ropanis in Gongabu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-26, vehicles operating in Nuwakot, Rasuwa and Dhading have been operating from the Machhapokhari and Balaju roads near the new bus park. Earlier, buses and microbuses operating on the Prithvi Highway, which were operating from the road between Gongabu Chowk and New Bus Park, have also started operating from within the new bus park.
Drivers of vehicles operating in Dhading, Rasuwa and Nuwakot have been reluctant to operate from within the new bus park. Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi said that there is a problem in traffic management in the valley due to the vehicles being parked haphazardly on the road.
Spokesperson Subedi said that it is inconvenient for traffic management when long-distance vehicles are moving through the ring road. He said that with the implementation of the decision of the metropolis, traffic jams around the ring road will be reduced.
Pankaj Malla, Human Resources Chief of Lotse Multipurpose Pvt. Ltd., which operates the new bus park, said that a separate 'track' has been arranged from the bus park for public vehicles operating in Nuwakot, Rasuwa and Dhading. Similarly, he said that a separate ticket counter has also been arranged for vehicles traveling that distance.
According to the Transport Office, there are currently about two million vehicles operating in the Kathmandu Valley. Recently, the number of private and public vehicles has increased across the country, including the capital Kathmandu, and the lack of road expansion has created additional challenges in traffic management.
