The production site of Bagmati Sweets Pvt. Ltd. in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-11, has been sealed after violating the order of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control.
During the inspection on Monday, insect-infested almonds were found in the industry, as well as serious deficiencies in hygiene and quality. The department then directed the industry to stop production and sale and distribution until further orders and to come forward with evidence within three days to rectify the deficiencies.
However, after receiving a complaint that the industry was selling and distributing products to various organizations in violation of the order, the department's spokesperson Bal Kumari Sharma informed that the inspection was repeated on Thursday.
According to her, during the inspection, a total of 51 packets of snacks were found, including 14 packets at the Tribhuvan University Registrar's Office, 25 packets at Chalnakhel Hospital, and 7 packets that were being loaded for delivery.
'It was found that food was being sold and distributed illegally in violation of the order,' Sharma said, 'The food production site and factory have been sealed until further orders.'
