With the New Year, Bhaktapur is currently in the midst of the Biska Jatra.

The Biska Jatra, traditionally celebrated on the first day of the New Year according to Tantric rituals, has begun. Thousands of people have flocked not only from Bhaktapur but also from other districts of the valley, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Kavre, to see the Lingo, which was raised on the last evening of the year at Lyasinghel in Bhelukhel.

It is believed that seeing the Lingo Jatra, which is fifty-five feet long, has a bare base and is adorned with a rainbow flag, will bring good luck to the enemies. It is customary to raise the Lingo with the rainbow flag in the middle of Chaitra and hold a grand fair all day long and then lower the Lingo in the evening.
