The traffic police have launched a campaign to strictly monitor and take action against drivers who violate traffic rules in the Kathmandu Valley.
After concluding that drunk driving, drug use and traffic rule violations are among the main causes of the increasing number of traffic accidents in recent days, the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has launched a special campaign.
The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Chief and Senior Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Adhikari along with his team are personally deployed on the roads in the campaign. The team sitting in the 'control room' provides information about where and with which number the vehicle has violated the rules.
The traffic police have been targeting public vehicle drivers early in the morning and focusing on two-wheeler drivers in the afternoon and evening. Currently, traffic police are being deployed at main intersections, busy roads and accident-prone areas of the capital to test whether drivers have consumed alcohol or drugs.
Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office Chief and Senior Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Adhikari said that the campaign was launched with the priority of reducing traffic accidents and passenger safety. According to him, a driver is responsible for dozens of passengers in public vehicles, so a small negligence on the part of the driver can cause a major accident.
'A driver is carrying dozens of passengers. If the same driver drives drunk or careless, who will take responsibility for the accident?' He said, 'Our main objective is to reduce traffic accidents. Therefore, we will take strict action against drivers who drive drunk or careless.'
Meanwhile, the traffic police are now preparing to revoke the licenses of drivers who cause damage by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The police are preparing to recommend to the relevant body to revoke the driving licenses of drivers who drive by hitting the 'divider' and endangering the lives of passengers.
The traffic police chief and senior superintendent of police, Adhikari, said that it is not possible to reduce accidents unless the trend of reckless driving is controlled, so strict action must be taken. 'The trend of reckless driving is no longer acceptable. In such a situation, just imposing a fine is not enough; if necessary, the process of revoking the driver's license will be taken forward,' he said.
Along with the campaign against drunk driving and drunk driving, the traffic police has also started taking strict action against drivers of vehicles violating traffic rules, and especially drivers who do not obey traffic lights are being monitored and action is being taken, informed Traffic Police Spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi. According to him, drivers who violate traffic lights and do not stop even when the red light is on are being monitored.
Meanwhile, 12 drivers who were driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol (drunk) have been taken into action during a surprise check conducted this morning under the special campaign of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police.
The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has urged everyone to immediately report to the nearest police office or traffic control room hotline number if they suspect that a driver of a sensitive vehicle carrying passengers has consumed drugs or alcohol.
