Lalitpur Metropolitan City has started collecting historical materials for the Rato Matsyendranath Museum in Jawalakhel. Preparations are underway to place objects, photos and records related to Rato Matsyendranath, who has been associated with local life and culture, in the museum.
According to Santosh Khadka, Chairman of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-4, correspondence has been sent to the Guthi Sansthan and various organizations related to Rato Matsyendranath to place them in the museum. 'Some photos have been collected, while other materials are in the process of being collected,' he said. The aim of this campaign is to safely preserve materials of historical, cultural and religious importance.
The Rato Matsyendranath Rath Yatra, worshipped as the god of rain and seasons, is one of the major cultural festivals of Lalitpur. This annual festival is considered the longest and most historic Rath Yatra in the valley. The museum has been built to systematically preserve and display this unique tradition and historical background.
The Metropolitan City has called on locals, Guthis, and various organizations to provide old materials, photos, documents, and other cultural artifacts related to Rato Matsyendranath. It is believed that this will play an important role in informing future generations about their cultural heritage.
According to the Metropolitan City, the construction work of the museum will be completed within the next 2 months. In the initial phase, no separate fee will be charged for visiting the museum. Arrangements will be made to allow visitors who have purchased tickets for the Sadar Zoo in Jawalakhel to visit the museum using the same ticket.
