Police have arrested a person on charges of defrauding 1.4 million rupees on the pretext of land purchase. 38-year-old Dhanbir Waiba (Vijay Moktan) of Sindhuli Hariharpur Rural Municipality-7 has been taken into custody by the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

According to SSP Ramesh Thapa, Chief of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Devi Shrestha, 56, of Chandragiri Municipality-6, Kathmandu, had filed a complaint on February 20, 2005, alleging that Moktan had come to her room and robbed her of 1.4 million rupees. According to Shrestha, Waiba had come to her room on the pretext of land purchase and robbed her of the money.

During the investigation conducted after the complaint, he was arrested on Tuesday from a hotel in Tokha Municipality-9, Shiva Mandir, Kathmandu. During the arrest, 547.690 grams of gold (2 pieces), 1 gold bill, 3 mobile phones of various companies and 1 check of Nabil Bank were recovered from Moktan. The police said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
