Police have arrested a young man on charges of character assassination of a minor through social media. The police have arrested 22-year-old Ashok Lama, a resident of Darimbot, Namobuddha Municipality-8, Kavre, and currently residing in Kathmandu.
Police deployed by the Cyber Bureau arrested him on Sunday based on a complaint that he posted intimate photos and videos of the victim on Telegram.
According to the police, an investigation is underway against Lama for an offense under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063, with permission from the District Court, Kathmandu, for a five-day extension, said the bureau's spokesperson and information officer, Deepak Raj Awasthi.
