Kathmandu Metropolitan City is gearing up to conduct this year's Janabahadya (White Matsyendranath's Rath Yatra) Jatra.

In a meeting held today under the chairmanship of Acting Chief Sunita Dangol, discussions were held with related bodies on Rath Yatra route management, coordination of religious, cultural and social works, peace and security, and dignity.

The Jatra will be conducted in 9 wards of the metropolis (1, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 27 and 28). Acting Chief Dangol informed that the assistance provided for the Jatra has been increased from 1 million to 2 million.

Kathmandu Chief District Officer Ishwor Raj Poudel said that the District Administration Office will mobilize security mechanisms for tight security. 'The metropolis should take the responsibility of coordinating with everyone from locals to partners to enhance the grandeur of the Jatra,' he said.

The metropolis will do the maintenance and improvement of the routes along which the Jatra will be conducted, along with the management including cleaning. Ashaman Sangat, coordinator of the Heritage and Tourism Committee, urged to create a comfortable environment for observing the Jatra.

 

According to Sujeev Bajracharya, coordinator of the Janabaha Jatra Management Committee, the Khat Yatra will start from Keltol on Chaitra 12. The President will come to Asan for darshan at 10:00 pm on the same day. At 5 pm on the 13th, it will be taken from Asan via Balkumari, Keltol, Indrachowk and then to Hanumandhoka.

At 5 pm on the 14th, it will be taken from Hanumandhoka via Chikanmugal, Jaiseideval, and Jyabahal to Lagan. On the 15th, a circumambulation of the tree that is the mother of Matsyendranath in Lagan will be done. The next day, on the last day of the Rath Yatra, the idol is carried on a khat by Lagan and taken to Janabahal via Jyabahal, Dya La, Yutunani, Kohiti, Bhimsensthan, Maru, Yatkha, Nara Devi, Kilagh, Bheda Singh, Keltol.

This Rath Yatra begins every year on the eighth day of Chaitra Shukla Ashtami.
