Kathmandu Metropolitan City has increased its surveillance on those who create artificial shortages of cooking gas and fuel for vehicles and engage in black marketing. The metropolis has activated the surveillance mechanism after complaints were received that gas is not being supplied to customers even though it is available, that gas is being charged at high prices because it is no longer available, and that fuel depots are being returned to consumers even though there is no oil in stock.
Action will be taken against those who create an uncomfortable situation in the lives of the general public by spreading false information that gas is not available, said Mahesh Kafle, head of the Administration Department. 'The Nepal Oil Corporation has fixed the price of gas at Rs. 1,910 per cylinder, and we request businessmen and consumers to buy and sell at this price,' he said.
It has also been found that consumers are demanding more due to fear of gas shortage. If gas is hoarded in this way, it will affect the demand and supply cycle, he said. 'Therefore, consumers should also demand gas responsibly,' he said. 'Consumers, industry and commerce, and the government all have equal responsibilities for a smooth livelihood. Everyone should fulfill their respective responsibilities.'
The metropolis has also reported that petrol pumps have also been informed that they are not providing fuel to vehicles despite having no fuel in stock. He said that we have started monitoring this too. If you see any activities that create gas and fuel shortages, factual details can be reported to the metropolis' hotline numbers 1180 and 9851356509. The metropolis will monitor based on the details received in this way.
According to Gyaneshwor Aryal, President of the Gas Sellers Federation of Nepal, gas coming from India has been regular so far. He said, 'The shortage has been seen due to high demand. There is no problem in this if the consumer does not demand for reserves.'
