Kathmandu Metropolitan City is to take over the responsibility of operating and managing the historic Dharahara.

The discussion held between the federal government and the metropolitan city on Friday has decided to immediately form a study committee to study the process of handing over the tower and its operation and management. Acting Mayor of the Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol informed that it has been decided to form a study committee to give the responsibility of operating and managing the tower to the metropolis. She said that it has been decided to study and draw conclusions without any impact on the private company that has taken the contract for parking and operating the tower and move forward accordingly. 

It has also been decided to give the management of the basement parking of the tower to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Acting Mayor Dangol said that the free parking facility will be provided at the Dharahara while the metropolis is implementing the 'no parking zone' in the New Road area.
