Police have taken Deepak Thapa into custody for allegedly defrauding people by claiming to be a police officer and offering to release his arrested son for Rs 500,000.

Thapa had absconded after taking Rs 500,000 from his mother in exchange for the release of Dafuri Sherpa, who was arrested in a case related to hundi trading.

Thapa, 40, a resident of Likhu Rural Municipality-1, Nuwakot and currently residing in Nepaltar, Tarakeswor Municipality-8, Kathmandu, was arrested and further investigation is underway after the Kathmandu District Court extended his remand for five days, informed SP Kaushal Kumar Budhathoki, spokesperson of the Kathmandu District Police Range.
