All juvenile detainees have been transferred after clashes, arson, and vandalism occurred at the Sano Thimi Juvenile Correctional Facility in Bhaktapur last night.
Police have said that they will be kept in juvenile detention centers in various police custody centers in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. They have been shifted for some time as all the structures inside the correctional facility were damaged due to the arson and vandalism that occurred after the clash.
8 juvenile detainees were injured in the clash, said Surya Bahadur Khadka, Chief Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Bhaktapur. 20 policemen were also injured in the clash that began at 9:45 pm last night. 7 of them have been discharged after being treated at the Nepal Korea Friendship Municipality Hospital, while one is undergoing treatment, according to the police.
According to the police, some juvenile detainees had beaten and injured them and vandalized the correctional facility and set it on fire. The fire was brought under control last night using fire engines. When the police tried to control the clash, stones were pelted at the police from inside the correctional facility.
Police have said that there are about 84 people above the age of 18 in the correctional facility, which houses 169 juvenile detainees. 24 of them are girls.
