The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police has arrested two people on charges of unauthorized access to the information systems of various government and non-government offices.
Those arrested are Santosh Chimaria, 20, of Mechinagar, Jhapa, and Bikash Poudel, 19, of Damak. The Cyber Bureau has stated that they were arrested with the help of the District Police Offices, Jhapa and Sindhupalchowk. The bureau had received complaints from the Nepal Medical Council, the Election Commission, and the National Identity Card and Registration Department.
According to the Cyber Bureau, for the past few months, they have been involved in website hacking and data theft incidents and have been making claims and promoting them through social media using the names CMD Nepal and Nepali for Nepal. After their involvement was revealed during the initial technical analysis and investigation, an investigation has been initiated under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063.
During the investigation, the police have recovered electronic devices including laptops, mobile phones, hard drives, etc. from their possession.
