The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has fined two industries and firms Rs 50,000 each. According to the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, manufacturers are required to maintain a list of the factory price of each item and sellers are required to maintain a list of wholesale or retail prices for each item they sell and distribute.
In the case of industry registration certificate and business, there is a provision that the business registration and license should be kept visible to the public at the point of sale. For not following the same provision, the department has fined Priya Sweet and Chat House Kathmandu Metropolitan City-3 Maharajgunj and I Cafe Restaurant and Bar Tokha Rs 50,000.
Similarly, the department has taken directive action by sanctioning 14 other firms. The department has intensified market sanctioning in recent days. It has stated that it is working to make the market clean, control black marketing and ban the sale and distribution of non-food items.
