A three-day home-made products and promotion fair has begun in Bhaktapur from Thursday.
The fair has started at the Na Pukhu premises in Bhaktapur Municipality-1. Inaugurating the fair, Bhaktapur Municipality Mayor Sunil Prajapati said that cottage industries are providing employment to many youths of the country and the federal and provincial governments should support them to take their products to the global market. At the event, Bhaktapur District Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal said that cottage industries play an important role in promoting local products and also in the economic development of the country.
Chandan Krishna Shrestha, Vice President of the Federation of Nepal Cottage and Small Industries, said that entrepreneurs should organize themselves to promote entrepreneurs' enterprises and said that only with the support and cooperation of the local government can the operation of Bhaktapur cottage industries be facilitated.
At the event, Office Chief of the Office of Industry and Commerce Ram Prasad Kusma expressed concern over the increase in the number of people opening 'show industries' only to get loans and send their children abroad rather than opening industries. He said that this has affected industrialists who want to do something in Nepal.
Organized by the Bhaktapur Cottage and Small Industries Association and in collaboration with the Office of Industry and Commerce, the fair has 48 stalls of home-made products.
The fair has 48 stalls including handicrafts, woodwork, Nepali cloth, juju dhau, Nepali mustard oil, Bhadgaunle topi, metalwork, herbs, mushroom dishes, knives, nurseries, boat art, Newari food items, Yomari, Chatamari, Wo: Newari Lakmari, and ceramics, informed Shyam Sundar Shrestha, president of the Cottage and Small Industries Association.
The fair will run until Poush 5.
