The Kathmandu District Police Range team arrested two people on charges of involvement in the transaction of 7.452 million rupees worth of cryptocurrency and made them public on Sunday.
The arrested are Bishal Dangol, 36, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14, and Umesh Shrestha, 45, of Miklajung Rural Municipality-1, Morang, currently residing in Kalanki, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14, said Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson and Superintendent of Police, District Police Range, Kathmandu.
According to him, a team deployed from the District Police Range arrested them on Saturday based on information that some people in Bijuli Bazaar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10 were trading in crypto currency.
The police have recovered five mobile phones of different companies used to trade crypto currency from them. Since the arrested people were seen trading in crypto currency, further investigation is underway against them for the offense of not using physical currency, said Spokesperson Bhattarai.
Three middlemen arrested
The police have arrested three middlemen who were allegedly making passports. Those arrested are Hemant Singh Okheda, 19, a resident of Bitthadchir Rural Municipality-6 in Bajhang and currently residing in Kirtipur, Kathmandu; Manraj Shrestha, 45, a resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-18; and Dipesh KM, 30, a resident of Pyuthan Municipality in Pyuthan, informed Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Kaji Kumar Acharya.
The three were arrested after they were found to have been harassing service recipients outside the main gate of the Passport Department Tripureshwor by offering various enticements and taking additional money, and obstructing the work of the Passport Department employees, said Spokesperson Acharya.
