Traffic police have arrested six people for driving under the influence of drugs in the Kathmandu Valley and made them public today.
According to Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, six drivers who were driving under the influence of drugs were taken into custody during a routine check conducted by the traffic police in Sukedhara, Kathmandu. The traffic police have been conducting regular checks throughout the valley.
Those taken into custody include Shekharnath Ghimire, 39, of Arjundhara Municipality-6 in Jhapa, Sajid Ansari, 33, of Pachrauta Municipality-6 in Bara, Suman Pariyar, 22, of Belkotgadhi Municipality in Nuwakot, Suraj Kumar Bajgai, 47, of Banepa Municipality-3 in Kavrepalanchok, bus driver Kapil Thapa, 32, of Thaha Municipality-4 in Makawanpur, and Bolero jeep driver Bhim Bahadur Khadka, 22, of Salyan, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.
Those taken into custody have been sent to the relevant police office for further investigation, according to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office. Traffic police in the Kathmandu Valley are always actively engaged in checking for substances and drugs, and people are urged not to drive under the influence of drugs, informed Valley Traffic Police Chief Nawaraj Adhikari.
He said, "Drivers who drive public vehicles carry many people. Driving while intoxicated or distracted puts many lives at risk. We urge you not to do so. Action will be taken as per the law if you disobey."
