The Nepal Red Cross Society has constructed a central warehouse in Bhaktapur with the financial support of the Chinese Red Cross Society. The warehouse, built at a cost of about 120 million rupees, will store essential non-food items, including 'dignity kits' for children and women, during disasters.
Dharmadatta Bidari, Acting Executive Director of Nepal Red Cross, and Bian Xiao, Vice President of the Chinese Red Cross Society jointly inaugurated the warehouse on Sunday. In a geographically diverse country like Nepal, which is highly vulnerable to earthquakes and other natural disasters, the materials stored in the warehouse will serve as relief efforts for disaster management.
On the occasion, Bian Xiao, Vice President of the Chinese Red Cross Society, said, “The Nepal Red Cross Society has been doing remarkable work in the field of humanitarian services. The Chinese Red Cross is very happy to be a part of the work of providing humanitarian assistance during disasters here. We are ready to explore the possibilities of partnership in every area that the Nepal Red Cross Society needs in the coming days as well.”
Acting Executive Director Bidari said that the Chinese Red Cross Society has been continuously providing support to the Nepal Red Cross Society in important areas. He said, “The Chinese Red Cross Society is the first partner agency to provide assistance after any disaster that strikes Nepal.”
Chinese Ambassador Wang Xin, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Chinese Red Cross Society Hai Liman, Director of the Disaster Management Department of the Chinese Red Cross Society Sei Bennan, and officials of the Nepal Red Cross Society Bhaktapur District Branch, young volunteers of the Junior and Youth Red Cross Circles and other staff were present on the occasion.
