A gang that stole and sold pistols from the police station in Swayambhu during the destruction caused by the Gen-G movement on 24 Bhadra has been arrested.
The police team deployed based on information that arms were being sold and distributed has taken five people into custody. The arrested are Krishna Gurung, 21, a resident of Dhading and residing in Kathmandu-15, Rajan Deula, 25, a resident of Bhagwan Pau, Akbar Khan, 24, an Indian citizen, Sumin Shakya, 26, a resident of Bijeshwari, and Prabhat Malla, 38, who runs a shop in Kshetrapati.
According to DSP Mohan Mani Adhikari of Police Circle, Swayambhu, Gurung was found to have stolen a pistol on Bhadra 24. It was revealed during the investigation that Deula had taken the pistol from him. ‘It has been found that Akbar Khan had taken it from Deuba and was looking for a customer to sell it,’ he said, ‘It has been found that Shakya purchased it for 65,000 rupees through him.’
It has been found that Shakya sold the pistol he purchased in this way to Prabhat Malla for 100,000 rupees. "It was recovered wrapped in a cloth and hidden in the changing room of the shop," the official said.
The police have also recovered the magazine and 15 bullets. Action will be taken against them under the Arms and Ammunition Act.
