A bulldozer was used in Thapathali, Kathmandu, on Friday afternoon. Businessmen there have been hit after the Kathmandu Metropolitan City used a bulldozer to remove unauthorized structures.
Adil Hussain of Rautahat had operated a garage in the area where the Metropolitan Corporation used a dozer near Ram Mandir in Thapathali. He had worked in that garage for 20 years. Later, he bought it from his moneylender. ‘We were given an ultimatum just two days ago. We moved our belongings in a hurry. Today the dozer demolished it,’ he said.
Adil says he pays the land rent to the Guthi Sansthan every month. ‘The rent is 41,000. I had paid the rent for two months only some time ago. Now we have suffered losses worth lakhs,’ he complained. Those who run other shops nearby are also scared after the dozer was used there.
