The National Bibhuti Shankhadhar Sakhwa Foundation, Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur has demanded the use of Nepal Sambat on Nepali banknotes.
At a press conference organized in Bhaktapur today, the foundation's chairman, Gyan Ram Shrestha, said that he has already requested Prime Minister Sushila Karki to use Nepal Sambat on Nepali notes on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1146.
Prime Minister Karki is positive about using Nepal Sambat on Nepali notes and since Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal is on a foreign tour, he has assured that the process of using Nepal Sambat on Nepali notes will be taken forward after his return from abroad, said Chairman Shrestha. In addition, Chairman Shrestha said that the government has also been requested to organize programs on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1146 in Nepali embassies abroad and to establish a national award in the name of national luminary Shankhadhar Sakhwa.
Chairman Shrestha informed the press conference that all three levels of government have drawn the attention of the government to arrange the necessary budget for the promotion of Nepal Sambat.
He said that preparations to garland the statue of national luminary Shankhadhar Sakhwa at Shankhadhar Chowk in Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1146 have been completed.
