Bhaktapur Municipality has provided educational loans to students to pursue higher education by pledging their educational certificates as collateral.
Mayor Sunil Prajapati said that 98 people in the city have been approved for educational loans for the fiscal year 2082/83. The municipality on Friday provided orientation to students and their parents who have been approved for educational loans on the topic of taking loans and paying installments.
The municipality has been providing educational loans of up to Rs 500,000 per student for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies. The municipality has been providing educational loans at an interest rate of 6 percent.
As of last year, 751 people are studying higher education by taking educational loans. Mayor Prajapati said that some students have already repaid their loans.
The municipality has invested Rs 170 million in educational loans.
