The National Youth Council has held a tribute and lamp lighting program in memory of the martyrs of the Genji movement.
A lamp was lit in the premises of the council office in Sanothimi Bhaktapur on Wednesday. In the tribute program, Executive Vice President of the Council, Surendra Basnet, said that true tribute to the martyrs can only be achieved if the youth of the Genji generation can proceed according to their wishes and feelings.
He said that those who indiscriminately shoot youths during riots in college/school uniforms and loot government and private properties by infiltrating the protests should be investigated fairly and severely punished. He insisted that everyone should do their part to properly judge the hopes, dreams and prospects of the Nepali youth who came to the center of the Genji movement. He said - 'Let's get up all new, let's get together all new.'
In honor of the people who died in the Genji movement, the government decided to celebrate national mourning by giving a public holiday on Wednesday.
