Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality has launched one school, one heritage campaign. According to the Metropolitan Municipality, this program has been introduced to protect the heritage within the metropolis and to inform the students about the heritage. On Wednesday, the Metropolitan Municipality started this campaign after discussing with principals and stakeholders of community schools and institutional schools.
Under this program, the students will clean and protect the heritage located near the school or in a suitable place. Students will gather in the protection and cleaning of stone streams, pati (falcha), Buddhist temples, monasteries, Buddhist stupas, major ponds within the metropolis.
Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan said that this is a 'dream project' of the metropolis. Stating that this is an experimental class for students, he said, 'We have brought this program to give knowledge to students about both information and conservation. Another student would be able to understand about the heritage by touching and seeing.
Mayor Maharjan requested the students to actively participate in this program. Raju Maharjan, coordinator and spokesperson of the Social Development Committee, said that this program will connect students with practical education. He said, 'It helps to understand the importance of heritage, this program also helps in the promotion of heritage.'
This program was conducted in all 29 wards within the metropolis, informed Devi Prasad Paudel, head of the education department. According to him, three five-member monitoring committees have also been formed to monitor this program. Based on the evaluation report given by the said committee, the school that works in an excellent manner in conservation will be awarded on the occasion of the 107th Foundation Day of the metropolis on January 2nd. Mayor Maharjan said, 'The award is an incentive, it inspires to be active in the work of conservation.' The waste collected during cleaning will be managed by the Environment Branch.
