Chiribabu Maharjan, head of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality, said that they have learned a big lesson from the floods that occurred in October last year and said that necessary preparations are being made for disaster risk reduction and response.
Addressing a program held on Tuesday, Mayor Maharjan said that the Metropolitan Corporation is providing training to security personnel and managing equipment to provide protection to the citizens from natural disasters.
Although there is a lack of some tools and equipment, he says that work is being done in that direction as well. 'We learned a big lesson from the floods in October last year. We have learned a lesson that Lalitpur Metropolitan Corporation still has a lot of work to do in order to provide security to the citizens from such calamities. Accordingly, we have also managed various types of training and equipment,' he said.
In terms of disaster management, Mayor Maharjan admitted that although Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality is the best among the country's 753 local levels, it was unable to respond to last year's disaster due to failure to make necessary preparations.
