An awareness program was organized on Thursday at Shaheed Shukra Secondary School located in Baghbazar-28, Kathmandu in order to prevent the increasing use of drugs among the youth.

Namobuddha Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Tarakeshwar-1 and Shree Mahankal Baghbazar Club jointly organized the students and local youths to raise public awareness against drug addiction and shed light on the mental, physical and social effects of drugs.

Although drug addiction is a problem, it is possible to treat it, said Nishan Deula, consultant and president of rehabilitation. He said, "Getting trapped in Kulat is like taking your own life to hell, but if there is awareness about it in time and if those who are in Kulat are taken to correctional centers in time, it can be stopped."  In the

program, Deula mentioned that counseling, self-motivation and support of the family will be necessary as a treatment for drug addicts.

Immediately after the same program, the students went around the Bagh Bazaar with placards telling them not to consume drugs.

Namobuddha Rehabilitation in Tarakeshwar was established in the year 2075. So far, the organization has completed awareness programs against drug addiction in various schools of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Nuwakot and Chitwan.

June 26 is the International Day Against Drug Addiction, and various programs are organized to raise awareness and inform about it.
