The police arrested 31-year-old Rama Basnet on the charge of spreading false and misleading content through the video sharing platform, Tiktok. The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police has said that he was arrested on suspicion of spreading ethnic and communal incitement on Sunday.
According to the bureau, Basnet posted untrue and misleading content on Tiktok in a planned manner and made targeted accusations against prominent people and organizations. According to the preliminary investigation of the police, he spoke to the Madhesi community through Tik Tok Live and the intention of his content was to spread negative ideas and assassinate his character.
Police said that the arrested girl is a permanent resident of Khotang, Halesituwachung-6 and is currently living in Bhaktapur. It is mentioned in the statement that he was arrested from Bhaktapur after registering a case for an offense under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063.
According to the order of the Kathmandu District Court, he has been detained for three days and the Cyber Bureau has informed that further investigation is underway.
