New names of 216 roads in Kathmandu

Kathmandu Metropolitan City is going to give new names to 216 roads. The old names of the roads within the metropolis have been revised and given new names. According to Ashok Shrestha, head of the Information and Technology Division of the metropolis, 216 roads have been renamed from 18 out of 32 wards so far.

"The names have been approved by the ward committee only from 18 wards," he said, "Now after this, all the wards have to be passed by the building arrangement committee of the metropolis." After the final approval by the executive, we will publish the names.'

The new names of the roads have been approved and sent by the ward committee from ward no. Discussions are going on in Ward No. 6, 22, 23, 26 and 32.

The metropolis has informed that the discussion on the map is going on in other wards. The metropolis approved 1 thousand 37 old names and approved the new names of the roads without names.

After all the wards approve the new and revised names of the roads, the roads that have been named from the Kathmandu Valley Mapping Program will be integrated, the original and scientific names of the roads will be given, and the details of the structures and infrastructure connected to the roads will be collected and mapped. According to this goal, the metropolis is working . 

In this way, the metropolis has informed that the facts and figures of the fields such as preparing the inventory (list) from the mapping and naming of roads, roads, routes and alleys, the original and scientific names of roads and road network, the plan related to roads, waste management, traffic management, emergency quick service etc. . 

Metropolitan Information Technology Division Chief Shrestha said that 1 thousand 49 kilometers of roads are visible within the metropolitan city on the map. There are 4 thousand 977 paths, roads, paths and alleys in it. According to him, 2 thousand 416 names have been given while 2 thousand 561 names have not been given.  

The inventory (list) of roads is being prepared, scientific and original names are being given and new names are being given after mapping based on Geographical Information System (GIS) to record the infrastructure related to roads . Mapping work has been started by 5 geographic information system engineers and 5 senior surveyors since 9th January 2081. 

According to Shrestha, the head of the division, a ward-wise map of all the wards has been printed based on the data collected by the Metropolitan Municipality from the Kathmandu Valley Mapping Program in 2058. Named and unnamed streets are indicated on the map. On the basis of this indication, work is being done to approve the old names through ward level discussion and to approve the new names from the ward. 

Kathmandu valley mapping program conducted in 2058 named and mapped 2 thousand 578 paths, roads, routes and alleys. 80 thousand households were assigned numbers based on the metric system .
