An agreement has been reached between Kathmandu University (KU) and Nepal Policy Institute (NPI) to cooperate in matters of mutual interest and interest in the fields of education and research.
Dhulikhel-based KU and Hague-based NPI signed the memorandum of understanding in a program organized at the University's School of Management at Balkumari, Lalitpur on Monday. Dr. Dinesh Kafle, head of
Global Engagement Department, informed that the two institutions have agreed to cooperate in joint research, publication and exchange of researchers, professors and students. He also expressed the commitment to mobilize grants for joint research in the field of public policy and to support each other's research and initiatives.
At the MoU signing event, the Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle, expressed his belief that this collaboration will create an opportunity to exchange experience and performance between the university and the global academic community.
'The policy of the university is to invite international professors for long-term teaching and research,' said Vice-Chancellor Wagle. In the
program, Chairman of the NPI Board of Directors, Dr. Khagendra Dhakal, discussed the role played by the organization in strengthening policy research and think tank systems in Nepal and abroad. He expressed his belief that the collaboration will strengthen the work that the university and the institution have been doing separately.
'It will help the Nepali talents abroad to focus on Nepal and demonstrate their expertise, which will benefit the country,' he said. Dhakal also pointed out the relevance of tripartite collaboration between the public sector, universities and think tanks.
Dr. Kafle informed that Kathmandu University was established in 1991 and is the leading university of the country. According to him, about 22,000 students are studying in the central and regional campuses of the university.
