Sunita Dangol, Deputy Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, is of the opinion that politics should not be done on heritage issues. Addressing the third annual meeting of the International Scientific Committee (Kathmandu Valley World Heritage Area) held on Friday, she said Nepali people should participate in the heritage area instead of geopolitics.
She said, 'Whether the investment in wealth creation is from the metropolis or the government, we should make it ourselves. Every investment in it should be ours.'
Deputy Chief Dangol added, 'After tomorrow, the question of who did the post-earthquake reconstruction will come. In that case, direct participation of Nepalese should be seen in heritage sector, not geopolitics. We are of the opinion that we should be able to be proud of such a field, that it should be proved that 'this is made by Nepalese'.
She mentioned that conservation problems are arising when heritage is reconstructed through cheap contracts. "Because of cheap tenders, there is difficulty in heritage conservation," she said.
