Since the new year, the Sadar Zoo at Jawalakhel has been operating in the evening hours, and the number of visitors has increased by 100 per day.
The head of the zoo, Satyanarayan Shah, informed that from 1st to 8th of Baisakh, 100 people visited the zoo daily. According to him, the zoo, which is open at other times from 10 am to 5 pm, has now been extended by two hours to 7 pm.
"We will gradually prepare the infrastructure and operate the zoo till 8 o'clock," he said, "now people know that it opens till 5 o'clock". As its publicity increases, the number of visitors to the zoo will increase.'
He said that especially now locals of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, employees and young people who finish the office after 5 o'clock come to take photos and visit the zoo. Last March 28, Forest and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri inaugurated the falcha and infant breastfeeding room made for living in the zoo. According to Shah, this will make it easier for visitors to visit the zoo. ``There is no problem of parking and traffic here,'' he says, ``so you can enjoy your visit.''
He informed that the zoo has free water for those who come to visit, a place to sit and eat lunch with friends and family. "We have about 1,400 birds and mammals," he added.
When visiting the zoo, 75 for children, 100 for senior citizens, Shah informed that students will be charged Rs 135 and adults will be charged Rs 200. We have not allowed any errors in the management.'
