The city will provide free screening and early treatment for breast and cervical cancer

Kathmandu Metropolitan City will start free breast and cervical cancer screening and initial treatment for women of reproductive age from Chait 12.

The Health Department of the metropolis has informed that the examination and treatment will be conducted till the 12th of Baisakh in collaboration with the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Veer Hospital. The metropolis has put the women of reproductive age who were missed during the test conducted last year and the women who were positive during the test into the target category of the program.  The city will provide free screening and early treatment for breast and cervical cancer

Last year, during the test conducted free of charge by the metropolis in the ward, problems related to reproductive health were found in many women along with cancer. Where 8 thousand 145 women underwent health examination. Among them, 6,624 women were tested for HPV DNA to detect cervical cancer. 453 people tested were positive for cancer. 

328 people who were found positive for cancer underwent eye colposcopy test in contact with the metropolis. Out of the biopsies, 121 had normal reports, 161 had CIN 1, 24 had CIN 2 and 14 had CIN 3. Also, 3 people have been sent for further treatment as they have cancer, the metropolis informed.
