The police have arrested 2 people along with Salak's khapta. Police Circle Balaju team arrested 2 people from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16, Machhapokhari with 770 grams of salak khapta.
Among those arrested are 29-year-old Umesh Tamang of Khotang Diprung Chuichumpa-2 and 30-year-old Mohan Pulami Magar of Sindhuli, Tinpatan-6.
According to SP Apilraj Bohra, Information Officer of District Police Complex, Kathmandu, 2 mobile phones have also been recovered from them. SP Bohra informed that the recovered salak and the arrested persons have been sent to the Division Forest Office, Kathmandu for necessary action.
The IUCN has included the salak in the 'Critically Endangered' group as it may become extinct in the near future. Salak is a protected wildlife of Nepal.
According to the National Parks and Wildlife Protection Act 2073, a person who kills, buys, sells or transports salamanders can be fined from five lakh rupees to ten lakh rupees or imprisoned for five to fifteen years or both.
