Martyrs Week has started from today in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the establishment of democracy in the country.
In coordination with Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Martyrs Week is celebrated every year from 10th to 16th of January to remember the martyrs.
On the first day of the Martyrs' Week, Shukraraj Shastri was executed today at his funeral home in Teku, and officials and residents of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, including Deputy Chief Sunita Dangol, paid their respects with wreaths.
Born in Vanaras in 1950, Shukraraj Shastri was active in the awakening campaign against the Jahanian regime through religious activities. He was arrested from Indra Chowk in Kathmandu and kept in jail. The Rana government hanged him on January 10, 1997 at Kharibot in Teku Pachli.
Shastri's memorial meeting was held in 2035 by the then Kathmandu Nagar Panchayat and protected by an inscription.
