The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has started to check the pollution of the vehicles plying within the metropolis. The metropolis has started checking the pollution of vehicles from the last week of January 2081 in collaboration with the traffic police.
Balendra Shah, head of the metropolis, wrote on social media Facebook, "Is the condition of your vehicle okay?" The amount of pollution is high . If the condition is not good, the vehicle should be repaired and cleaned. We are checking the pollution of the vehicles in cooperation with the traffic police.'
For this, the metropolis has adopted the Environment and Natural Resources Act 2077, Pollution Control Standards 2081, Foharmaila for this purpose. Collection and Shipping Procedure 2081 has been issued . The metropolis has informed that the pollution test of the public vehicles plying in the city has been implemented by implementing the provisions of the law. In the
criteria, separate indicators have been kept for petrol-powered vehicles and diesel-powered vehicles and the manufacturing period . Four-wheelers produced up to 1980 must have a maximum carbon monoxide concentration of 4.5 percent (by volume). The standard for vehicles manufactured in 1981 or later is to have a maximum of 3 percent (by volume) of carbon monoxide.
Likewise, in the case of three-wheeled vehicles, the amount of carbon monoxide in the vehicles produced by the year 1991 should be a maximum of 4.5 percent (by volume). In case of two-wheelers, the maximum carbon monoxide content should be 4.5 percent (by volume).
For all types of diesel vehicles manufactured up to 1994, the vehicle smoke density must be a maximum of 75 Hartridge Smoke Units (HSU). For vehicles manufactured in 1995 or later, there is a provision in the standard that the smoke density of the vehicle should be a maximum of 65 Hartridge Smoke Units (HKU). The metropolis said that action will be taken if the score is higher than the specified unit during the examination.
