The businessmen of Patan protested that the Lalitpur Metropolitan Corporation has prohibited parking on the business route Lagankhel-Mangalbazar, Pulchok-Gwarko. The Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry protested that the Metropolitan Corporation, which has been playing a coordinating role in footpaths, sanitation and traffic management, has unilaterally prohibited parking on that route without discussing it with the association.
According to the association, the ban on parking without long-term thinking has not only disturbed the commercial sector, but also affected the general public and house owners. The
businessman has also submitted a memorandum containing nine points to Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan of Lalitpur Metropolitan City. The private sector, which is the main backbone of the country's economy, has contributed 81.75% to the revenue collection of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality in the fiscal year 2080/81.
Although Mayor Maharjan promised to solve the parking problem, he showed no interest in further discussion. If the suggestion is not implemented soon, as the first phase of the protest, all the businessmen will be forced to close the shutters of their shops and start a protest," said the statement issued by the union.
Raju Maharjan, spokesperson of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality, said that not only people park in the area to buy goods, but also stop for hours, the road gets jammed. It would have been fine to stop the motorcycle for a while and go shopping. But parking is prohibited due to the problem of stopping for hours, he said.
