Kathmandu Metropolitan City has introduced the 'Agro Pulling' program to facilitate the sale and distribution of local agricultural products. For this, the 37th city meeting held on Sunday passed the 'Agro Pulling Procedure, 2081'.

Information officer Vasant Acharya informed that with the passage of the procedure, the metropolis will cooperate with the local level outside the city to facilitate the sale and distribution of agricultural and food products produced in the area.

is a program under the golden plan approved by the previous municipal assembly of the city, he said, "the procedure was passed today." After verification in a few days it will be fully implemented .' 

Balendra Shah (Balen), the head of the metropolis, had mentioned in the election manifesto that fruit and vegetables would be cultivated by leasing vacant arable land across the country to produce vegetables and for the residents of the metropolis to consume them. This program was brought on his own initiative. 

Information officer Acharya says that the program was started with the aim of facilitating the people of the city to get quality and fresh food easily at a reasonable price while promoting nature-based agriculture system in collaboration with other local levels.

What is aggro pulling ? 

Acharya, the information officer of the metropolis, explains about this and says, "Agro" is derived from "agriculture". This is a project. In which goods produced in local areas outside of Kathmandu are brought to Kathmandu for sale and distribution. Acharya said that this will encourage local production and make it easier to provide good fruits, fish, meat and pulses to the consumers of Kathmandu. For this, the metropolis has envisioned the sale and distribution of products produced in the local area by establishing a separate company or through an agricultural cooperative.

'It envisages two manufacturing and distribution organizations . The producers are outside the Kathmandu metropolis,'' he added, adding, 'After that, the distributors in the metropolis will supply the goods collected from the producers within the metropolis.'  What's in the

process? In the

procedure, the role of the producer organization and the distributor organization have been explained . The producer organization will bring the products produced by the farmers to the distribution organization in the metropolitan city. 

'There will be farmer groups or agricultural cooperatives or company producer organizations that produce food, collect, test quality and transport it in agreement with the local level and supply food to the distribution organization designated by the metropolitan city.' According to Acharya, an agricultural cooperative or company will do the work of storing, testing, packaging, labeling and distribution of food will remain .

The aim of this program is to increase coordination between other local levels and Kathmandu metropolis, improve relations, maintain the quality of food provided to consumers and provide it easily.

'In other local levels of the city, where a special area of ​​food production is identified as a pocket area, and the organization will contract with the relevant local level to produce there,' says information officer Ayarch, 'that production organization works in the place where such food is produced  . He will collect from all the farmers and send to the distributor.'

procedure, there is also a provision for the formation of a directorate committee for the policy management of agro pulling. In which the coordinator of the thematic committee will be the chairman of the committee, three members and the chief member secretary of the agriculture department. This committee will carry out the responsibilities of identifying the production area of ​​special food needed for the metropolitan residents, submitting a proposal to the executive for cooperation with the local level, making policy arrangements to run the program, and determining the terms of the agreement.  In the words of

Acharya, "The goal of this program is to cooperate with other local levels to ensure the rights and interests of metropolitan residents and consumers and to provide quality fresh food easily and at a reasonable price." For which the previous executive meeting of the metropolis has already given permission to establish the company.
