Demonstration demanding to stop elephant festival in Chitwan

Demonstrations have been held in Kathmandu against the 'Elephants and Chitwan Tourism Festival' which is scheduled to start from December 11 at Sourah in Chitwan.

The people working in the field of animal rights held an exhibition at the gate of Bhrikutimandap, the office of the Nepal Tourism Board on Friday and demanded that the festival should be closed. They had protested before saying that elephants were being tortured in the name of festival.

'We came to say that animals should not suffer for our entertainment . But our words were not heard/not seen,' said activist Kalyan Shrestha, 'so we have come to the office of the tourism board blindfolded, wearing elephant trunks and pamphlets. The board is the promoter of the festival. is . That's why we protested in front of the board.'
