A delegation of the Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) led by President Sunil KC has met with Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal.
The delegation led by Chairman Sunil KC has submitted a proposal to include the issues to be discussed in the bilateral agenda during the Prime Minister's proposed visit to India to promote Nepal-India trade and investment, a Nikkei statement said.
The delegation also proposed to establish consulates or trade representative offices in key locations including Mumbai and Bangalore to expand Nepal's diplomatic presence in India.
'This recommendation is based on current trade data - about 80 percent of Nepal's exports go to India, 60 percent of imports come from India, and about 85 percent of third-country trade goes through Indian ports including Kolkata, Haldia, and Visakhapatnam,' the statement said.
On the occasion of the meeting, Foreign Minister Khanal positively accepted the proposal presented by Nikkei and expressed appreciation for Nikkei's continued contribution to Nepal-India economic cooperation.
