Although the election was scheduled for Chaitra 20 after two candidates were in the running, Kandel became unopposed after the candidate for the presidency, Nawaraj Subedi, withdrew his candidacy.
Kandel is the outgoing president of the Baglung Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the former president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Baglung. Although he was unopposed for other positions, two candidates were nominated for the presidency. The federation has decided to conclude all provincial conventions by mid-Chaitra.

The election committee has stated that nine members are also unopposed. There is a provision for the chairman to nominate three members.
The elected Kandel said that he will play a role in promoting business amid the economic recession and lead in promoting tourism in Gandaki Province. He said that he will support the economic and monetary policies adopted by the state while maintaining financial discipline. ‘We will promote business by supporting the state’s policies,’ Kandel said, ‘There is also a plan to develop the capacity of material and associate organizations to make them able to pay taxes to the state.’ He said that it is necessary for businessmen to increase their business in order to pay taxes and the state should create an environment for that.
In addition, Kandel is committed to establishing the federation’s own secretariat, facilitating district and municipal associations for economic development, and supporting their capacity building. He also said that increasing the capacity of material associations including hotels affiliated to the federation will make a significant contribution to promoting tourism within the province and that the path to economic development can be determined from there.
