Ncell distributes new 971 number range mobile numbers

What you should know

Ncell has started providing mobile numbers starting with the new number range 971 from Monday for the convenience of general consumers. The Nepal Telecommunications Authority had granted permission to Ncell to distribute numbers in this number range in June.

This new number range has been issued in accordance with the rules of the National Numbering Allocation Plan of the Nepal Telecom Authority. The new number range was provided to Ncell as there were insufficient mobile numbers to provide services to the subscribers through the number ranges 980, 981, 982, 970 issued by the Nepal Telecom Authority.

'We are grateful to the Nepal Telecom Authority for granting permission for the new number range keeping in mind the market situation,' said Upgam Dutta, Chief Consumer Business Officer of Ncell, 'The distribution of numbers in the new number range has started after necessary preparations.' He said that in the current situation, where digital transactions and various services are increasingly being taken through mobile phones, apart from general communication services, the new numbers will provide benefits to subscribers as well as service providers.

Along with the distribution of new numbers, Ncell has advised government and non-government organizations, service provider companies, offices, banks and financial institutions that are directly or indirectly connected to the mobile system and provide various types of services and facilities to integrate/update this new number range in their respective systems as soon as possible. For efficient service delivery, service providers need to integrate/update the new number range in their systems.

Apart from telecommunication services, the company has stated that mobile numbers are essential for obtaining One Time Passwords (OTPs) related to various services and facilities, signing up for mobile apps and web-based services, and conducting various digital transactions. In the current situation where information technology is moving towards a digital future, mobile numbers have become an important means to easily and digitally access various services.
