The internet service provider company Vinet Communications has submitted a royalty of 55 million rupees to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and to the Nepal Telecommunication Authority.
Vianet has submitted the amount to the Authority as royalty and Rural Telecommunication Development Fund (RTDF) up to the financial year 2080/81 along with the disputed dues. According to the Telecommunications Act, 2053, the internet service provider has to pay 4 percent royalty and 2 percent RTDF fee of the income.
There was a dispute between the government and the ISPs about whether this fee should be levied only on internet sales or maintenance costs as well. ISPs had taken the stand that maintenance costs should be charged. But after the Supreme Court ordered to apply royalty and RTDF even on maintenance expenses, Vynet claimed to have paid the arrears.
