Division Chief Anupama Dhakal and Mechanical Officer Tulakant Chaudhary of the Underground Water Resources and Irrigation Development Division Office, Karmaiya, Sarlahi, were arrested on Friday evening with 821,000 rupees on charges of taking bribes while causing delays in payments.
A team from the Bardibas Regional Office of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority raided the residence of Division Chief Dhakal, located on the ground floor of Ramkaji Thapa's house in Bagmati Municipality–12, and found 750,000 rupees on the sofa where Dhakal was sitting, which had been taken from a service recipient, according to the Commission.
According to the Commission, based on a complaint that Chief Dhakal and Mechanical Officer (sixth level) Tulakant Chaudhary colluded to harass service recipients and demand bribes during the payment process after completing boring and motor installation works, a team from the Bardibas office was deployed. The team found that both officials had already taken 750,000 rupees in bribes from two service recipients, and also seized 71,115 rupees of unaccounted money and three mobile phones. Further investigation is underway, the Commission stated.
Both individuals taken into custody are being held at the Commission's Bardibas office.
