The main road expansion in the Birgunj Metropolitan City area resumed on Wednesday.
Engineer at the Road Division Office Hetauda and focal person assigned for Birgunj, Durga Prasad, informed that work began from the Ghantaghar area starting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Previously, the office team had worked on road expansion until last Wednesday. In Birgunj, work had been halted due to the Gahawamai Rath Yatra last Thursday and extreme heat, among other reasons.
On Wednesday, about a dozen houses, both large and small, were demolished in the Ghantaghar area. He said that Dabur Nepal and two other large houses located there are planned to be demolished on Thursday. He also stated that the compound wall and building of the Nepali Army located there have not been touched for now. He mentioned that the demolition work left incomplete in the Birta area is likely to resume from Friday.
In the first phase, the Department of Roads had used bulldozers on about 1,200 houses and buildings in the main road area on the 6th and 7th of Baisakh. During that process, the front portions of most structures were demolished.
Although those concerned were requested to remove structures within the road boundary themselves within 25 days, as many structures remained intact even after the deadline, the department launched the second phase of the campaign two weeks ago.
