A youth who jumped into the Koshi River on Monday afternoon has been rescued safely after 2.45 hours. Jayaprakash Sah, 28, of Ward No. 5, jumped into the river from the south side of Gate No. 47 of the barrage bridge in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-1.
Sah's friend, who jumped into the river at 2 pm, informed the police around 2:30 pm. A team including DMT had reached the area under the command of Senior Deputy Inspector of Police Nageshwar Thandar of the Area Police Office Bhardaha and Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Aindra Raj Nembang of Armed Base Camp Bhardaha. By then, the youth had been swept away by the water and taken to Palar (sand in the middle of the water).
The DMT team rescued the youth safely at 4.45 pm after an hour of effort. The reason why the young man jumped into the river has not been revealed, said DSP Hemraj Ghimire, spokesperson for the District Police Office.
According to him, the young man, who was rescued safely, has been handed over to his wife Durgadevi Sah.
