The road expansion work in the main road area of Birgunj Metropolitan City has slowed down somewhat. The Road Division Office, Hetauda, has given priority to cleaning the flooded drains and sidewalks along the roads.
The Road Division, Hetauda, completed the work of cleaning the drains and sidewalks in the Murli and Narayani Hospital areas on Tuesday. According to Durga Prasad, engineer of the Road Division, Hetauda and focal person assigned for Birgunj, the road expansion work is currently ongoing from Birta Mandir to the north. He also said that a lot of time is being spent on demolishing some tall houses in that area.
He said that the road expansion work will be paused for a few days after the demolition of those houses is completed by Wednesday afternoon. He said that since the Gahwamai Rath Yatra and the end of the fiscal year are also taking place in Birgunj on Asad 32, the employees are also being given a few days' rest from continuous work. He said that after a short break, the road expansion work is planned to resume within two to four days.
On April 6 and 7, the Road Department had used dozers on about 1,200 houses and buildings along the main road in the first phase. In the process, the front part of most of the structures was demolished, while the concerned were urged to remove the structures located on the road boundary within 25 days. But after many structures remained intact even after the deadline, the department has increased the second phase of the campaign since a week and a half ago.
