To strengthen the preparedness to face possible floods and inundation-related disasters in the Nepal-India border area, the Armed Police Force Nepal and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a joint disaster management simulation exercise on Monday.

The joint exercise was conducted at Chhatghat in Bindabasini Rural Municipality-4 of Parsa and Tilawe Khola under Sisuwa Gram Panchayat-5 of East Champaran district of Bihar state, India.

A joint team of security agencies from both countries led by Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police of the Nepal Border Security Force, Alau, Govinda Bahadur KC, and Assistant Commandant of Indian SSB 47th Battalion, G Company Sisuwa, Sangam Singh Rawat, participated in the exercise.

The main objective of the program was to safely rescue citizens at risk due to floods and inundation, necessary coordination in rescue work, and practical exercise of disaster response capacity. During the exercise, security personnel trained in disaster management from both countries demonstrated the rescue of people trapped in floods, their transfer to safe places, and coordinated work.

The program was attended by local people's representatives, Bhadrabhaladami, locals of the border area and representatives of various stakeholders. The Armed Police Force, Nepal has stated that such joint exercises have been conducted every year to enhance disaster response capacity in the border area, strengthen coordination between Nepal-India security agencies and reduce loss of life and property.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Raj Niraula, Information Officer of the Armed Police Force Parsa, informed that the cooperation with the Indian counterpart, SSB, will be continued in the coming days by making it more effective.
