During road expansion in the main road area of Birgunj Metropolitan City on Thursday, a bulldozer was operated from the Miteri Bridge at the Nepal-India border towards the north.

On Wednesday, a bulldozer had been operated up to the Nepali Army barracks near Ghantaghar. Engineer of the Road Division Hetauda and focal person assigned for Birgunj, Durga Prasad, informed that since the electricity line needs to be cut to operate a bulldozer from Ghantaghar southwards into the main market area, work has been started from the south towards the north for the time being. He said that on Thursday, road expansion was carried out up to Shriram Hall, with the goal of reaching Birta Chowk by Friday.

Since the narrow condition of the road and the presence of electric poles create problems in entering the main market area via Ghantaghar, work was started from the Miteri Bridge side from Thursday.

On Thursday, half a dozen bulldozers were deployed simultaneously in the house removal campaign. On the 6th and 7th of Baisakh, the Road Department had operated bulldozers on about 1,200 houses and buildings in the main road area in the first phase. During that time, the front parts of most structures were demolished, and those with structures within the road boundary were requested to remove them themselves within 25 days. However, as many structures remained even after the deadline, the department has launched the second phase of the campaign from Friday.
