Victims of an assault incident in Siraha have complained that they were mistreated by the police when they raised concerns about their complaint not being addressed.

The police mistreated the victims within the premises of the Area Police Office in Golbazar. Two months ago, in Golbazar Municipality-11, there was a dispute over goats between local Samsad Laheri and Rubo Khatun. During the altercation, Samsad was also injured by a beating from Rubo's son Kais Khatun, and his wife Zarina Khatun's finger was broken.

After Zarina received treatment at a local hospital, she underwent surgery at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar, where steel was inserted. Samsad had filed a complaint with the police regarding this incident. Although there had been discussions between the parties before, the dispute could not be resolved due to disagreements over medical expenses.

Recently, Rubo's side had stopped attending discussions at the police. Both parties had been called to the police for discussions today as well. While the victims appeared at the police station, the accused did not, prompting the victims to complain that the police were not taking the matter seriously. During this, there was an exchange of words between the police and the victims. Photos and videos of the police pushing the victims and using abusive language to expel them from the office have been made public on social media.

Samsad said that although they repeatedly went to the police as summoned, the accused never showed up, and the police only made excuses, which led him to complain. "We go to the police repeatedly, but the other side never comes; the police seem to be siding with the accused and threaten us," he told Kantipur. "Today, when we voiced our complaint, the police mistreated us instead."

During this incident, the police also detained Samsad's nephew, Aftab Laheri, for some time.

Golbazar Police Chief, Inspector Sudan KC, claimed that the dispute arose after the victims began recording video inside the police office and the police tried to stop them.
